News from the frontier, 3/10/2007 (Trek XI, Capt. America)

Well, since the founder is a bit MIA at the moment, I guess I'll take a swing at freshening the pot. Unlike my more journalistically inclined compatriot, who actually has some training in journalism, I am merely some doofus who got a BA in Philosophy because I thought it was "interesting" and thus cannot claim any kind of journalistic rigor in the following stories:
Trek V2
MTV, also a renowned journalistic institution, posted an interview with the screenwriters of the upcoming Abrams-helmed Trek film, which indicated the film will be a "re-imagining" of the franchise. Previous rumors had Harve Bennett in a litigious mood over a possible "Starfleet Academy" film, as he had previously pitched his own Academy film. This may have been a consideration in theme of the script. If that is the case, then Harve may be responsible for saving the franchise, however indirectly.
They go on to say it's more action oriented and targeted towards a broader audience than, well, people like me, who call themselves "Star Trek fans." Good call there. Making movies for Star Trek fans has proven a rather unprofitable endeavor the past couple times. Little too early to say Paramount is learning from past mistakes. After all, Berman hung around a long, long time...
Captain America Inhumed
I know, DC-fanboy here, but that doesn't make it not-news. Cap got waxed by an unidentified sniper while being arraigned on charges springing from his "resistance" to the Superhuman Registration Act which spurred the recent Marvel Civil War event.
Enough Wikipedia links there? Maybe I can work in more before this is over.
Took a couple days to gear up, but the event hit mainstream media outlets pretty hard. Why, I'd even say, almost as hard as another noted superhero death back, say, early 90's or so...
Stephen Colbert provided the best and most humorous (and probably pretty accurate) overview of the reasoning behind the event in the 3/08 THE WØRD segment, which is probably somewhere in this rather large assault on the visual senses that is the Colbert Report's little corner of the Comedy Central website.
Why can't DC court Stephen too?
Obviously it's comics, so the "When will Steve Rogers be Captain America" again office pool is all the rage. I'm going to give them some credit and say it's going to be at least 2 years.
