ILM to create the "Enterprise" for Star Trek XI

posted by Tygrrius @ 5:44 AM
TrekMovie.com once again broke huge Star Trek news yesterday. Not only have they confirmed that Industrial Light & Magic will be creating the effects for Star Trek XI, but they have also confirmed that the starship Enterprise (NCC-1701) is slated to appear in the movie.

Allow me a brief, geek moment here.

YES!!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!!

Whew, okay. Star Trek XI just got even more interesting. ILM's direct relationship with Star Trek dates back to 1982's Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. ILM also created the effects for Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Star Trek Generations, and Star Trek: First Contact.

Thanks to the folks over at TrekMovie.com for their top-notch coverage of this and pretty much every other important Star Trek story in the past year.

Directed by JJ Abrams, who has previously confirmed that James T. Kirk appears in the movie, Star Trek XI begins shooting this fall and is scheduled for release on December 25, 2008.
