July 2007 episodes for "Star Trek: Remastered"

This month on Star Trek: Remastered. . . .
Weekend of July 7: "Return to Tomorrow"
A group of highly advanced but formless aliens ask Kirk, Spock, and Dr. Anne Mulhall (Diana Muldaur) to borrower their bodies for a bit while they construct android bodies for themselves. They, of course, agree. Not to be confused with "Tomorrow Is Yesterday" or "All Our Yesterdays." Muldaur later appeared as Dr. Miranda Jones in "Is There In Truth No Beauty" and Dr. Katherine Pulaski on the second season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, the only character that can rival Wesley Crusher in TNG fan hatred.
Weekend of July 14: "Charlie X"
The crew of the cargo ship Antares seem quite anxious to quickly deliver teenager Charlie Evans, the lone survivor of a spacecraft crash, to the Enterprise. The Enterprise gang soon finds that Charlie has special abilities and a temper. Can Kirk keep Charlie in check before he melts all of Spock's chess pieces?
Weekend of July 21: "The Squire of Gothos"
A being with godlike powers traps the Enterprise in orbit and begins to use the crew as playthings on his planet. Trelane (William Campbell) was the inspiration for Star Trek: The Next Generation's Q (a nice way of saying that Q was a rip-off of Trelane). Campbell later appeared as Koloth in "The Trouble With Tribbles."
Weekend of July 28: "This Side of Paradise"
A paradise-like planet turns out to be anything but when plant spores cause emotional reactions in the crew. Even Spock expresses his love for botanist Leila Kalomi (Jill Ireland). Unfortunately, he does this by hanging upside-down from a tree. Everyone decides to leave the Enterprise behind and live on the planet instead. Everyone except one particular starship captain, that is.
"This Side of Paradise" serves as the end of Star Trek: Remastered's first season. While a fine episode, I think it makes a poor choice for a season finale. Since these episodes air out of their original sequence anyway, they should have saved "The Menagerie" two-parter to work as this season's finale and next season's premiere. A great opportunity wasted.
The rest of the original series episodes will be remastered in season two, beginning September 15. Until then, Remastered episodes will be repeats. Aren't they all?

Star Trek: Remastered airs each weekend, in syndication, and features updated special effects and other enhancements to the original Star Trek series. Check your local listings for time and station.
