Knight Rider, Chuck, Super Friends (News from the frontier, 1/11/2008)

Good evening, folks. Tygrrius here with your latest dose of news from around the frontier.
KITT is back, sort of
First up are a couple of brief looks at Knight Rider, the new TV movie airing next month on NBC. This will actually be the fourth attempt to resurrect the concept since the original 1982-1986 series. As an eight-year-old, I was a huge fan of the show-mostly because of KITT, the talking black Trans Am (voiced by William Daniels).
Though this site proves I'm a nostalgist, some memories are best left to childhood. I've found that to be the case with Knight Rider. Though the Trans Am still looks cool, the show really doesn't hold up. It was, however, tons better than subsequent takes: Knight Rider 2000 (1991), Knight Rider 2010 (1994), and Team Knight Rider (1997).
Why did the subsequent movies and series not to live up to the original? Personally, I think it was the car. Sure, the acting was bad but that was often the case on the old show, too. None of the subsequent cars have been as perfect as the Trans Am.
For 1991's Knight Rider 2000 TV movie, KITT became another Pontiac, a red Banshee IV. Though Daniels still provided the voice, the feel just wasn't there. 1994's Knight Rider 2010 featured a Ford Mustang and bore nearly no connection with the series.
Team Knight Rider in 1997 sported an entire fleet of talking Fords. The show lasted only one season.
Now another decade later, Knight Rider is back once again. Below is a brief teaser featuring the new KITT .

And here's a quick behind-the-scenes look at the new movie.

My first impression is that, once again, they've made a mistake with the car. Now, perhaps I'm not in the target age range but the Knight 3000, another Mustang (where's the love for GM?), just doesn't look that cool to me. Also lacking is the vocal talent of William Daniels.
As for the comment that the new Knight 3000 car was an upgrade from the original series' Knight 2000, I might point out that the first TV movie mentioned above featured the Knight 4000--the red version of KITT. Actually, all of this just might be confusing enough to get some of my fellow Trekkie fans to watch. You know who you are.
The movie airs on February 17. I'll probably check it out, for old time's sake. Thanks to Shankar over at 360i for sharing the links.
Chuck is back, but not for long
My favorite new series, Chuck, returns with two new episodes on January 24 (NBC). Unfortunately, due to the ongoing writer's strike, it appears these will be the show's final new airings of the shortened season. (Info Source: Sci Fi Wire)
The Super Friends are back, but so are the Wonder Twins
Forget all of this craziness about the Justice League movie, kick back and watch 1977's All New Super Friends Hour instead - out this week on DVD. Super Friends had a confusing mass of incarnations but I think this was one of my favorite versions, despite the inclusion of wonder twins Zan and Jayna.
And that will just about wrap things up. Good night, everyone.
