"Memory of Kelley"

I was six years old when I met him first. On the old TV of my parents - a young child fascinated by this "new" explored series, this girl never saw before. This series was older than her mother was. But she felt like seeing the future in it - and does still. He was one of my most favourite characters - "Pille" here in Germany, "Bones" up in the USA. I even named a pet after him. I loved this character - it was so human and unforgettable.
I was very sad when I heard that Kelley died. But we can see him, whenever we like, just picking that tape in the shelf, there's the VCR, there's the TV. And technology - the future - gives us back the past and a piece of our childhood.Kelley found his frontier up in space. But we'll keep on traveling a while till we'll find ours. To also quote something from the second movie: "Live long and prosper", the dying Spock said. The dead Kelley says: "Go on."
And we do.
"He's really not dead. As long as we remember him."

Bones, in our hearts you will never die. We will remember you as long as we live. As long as we are remembered.

I had the pleasure of working with DeForest Kelley three times when he made personal appearances in Connecticut in connection with the 20 hour Star Trek Marathons that our television station aired in the mid '80's. I was the Promotion Manager at the time and squired him about for a couple of days. We also spent a long day at the Buena Park Wax museum on their very authentic Star Trek bridge set where we taped promotional announcements for these marathons. He was a charming, gracious man and I especially remember a dinner we had with him at a Hartford restaurant where he proceeded to give us wise advice about how to have a long marriage (as he himself did).He also learned that I loved avocados, and very kindly brought a small bag of them--grown in his own garden--on his next visit to Connecticut. He will surely be missed.

I learned of DeForest Kelley's death when I was in Oceanside, California. I am from Canada, but meeting producers and a guest on the Deep Space Nine set was a sorry day for me and also others. Even customs agents felt this sadness. I will never forget the love Mr. Kelley brought out in Gene Roddenberry's creations and the kindness of the stars of Star Trek. Peace be with you.

I went into the bathroom and cried when I found out DeForest Kelley died. He had always been my favorite of all the Star Trek people. I didn't realize until recently how much influence he and his character had on my life. I had thought for a while that I wanted to do something in the medical field, and in fall of 2002 I'll be starting college and training to become an EMT. It has helped me to know where he is now and to know that someday I'll get to meet him. Thank you, Lord, for this man's life.

My name is Fiona and I am 12 years old. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, especially the original series. I think De will live on forever as that doctor who always put a smile on people's faces. It's hard to believe De is gone. He changed so many things in a lot of people. I know De will stay in my heart forever. "All good things must come to an end," but this man never will.

I was 16 when I found out that DeForest Kelley had passed away on June 11, 1999. At the time he died, I was taking the last of my final exams in my sophomore year at high school. I did not know about his death at that time until two weeks later when I read People magazine's tribute to him.
I have been watching Star Trek since I was 10-11 years old. My first Trek was The Next Generation and while I enjoyed that series very much, The Original Series is my favorite. I love the whole TOS crew and Dr. McCoy is my favorite character. Even though I never had the chance to meet De, he and Bones have always put a smile on my face and I will remember that.
De, we miss you and we will always remember you.

I am 14 years old and only found out about Kelley's death about 3 weeks ago. I was deeply saddened by his death and his soul shall live forever in outer space. I hope everyone will remember him as McCoy and the funny things he did on the original series. I will miss him.
